Who We Are

We  are a contemplative community of religious sisters. We belong to the Franciscan family and profess the Rule of St. Clare: Living the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We live in accordance to the spirituality and ideals that Venerable Maria Lorenza Longo had when she founded the Capuchin Sisters in Naples, Italy in 1535.

Leaving behind family, friends, and life in the world, we dedicate fully to serving God “preferring nothing to the love of Christ”, dedicated to meditating God’s word. Our priority is contemplative prayer and the Liturgy of the Hours.

We alternate the interior life with work and prayer in the Evangelical commitment to conversion of life in obedience, poverty and chastity.

Life of Prayer  and Contemplation

Jesus became intimate with the Father by long hours in silent prayer. Francis and Clare, desiring the same intimacy with the Father, imitated Christ by living a life of contemplation. In this same way, we Capuchin Poor Clares let our hearts touch the heart of  God.

The Work

We Do

— Following  Christ with

                          Franciscan  Spirituality —

On February 4, 2001, six sisters left the monastery  of Amarillo, Texas, accepting the invitation of Bishop Emeritus Arthur N. Tafoya to establish a new community of Capuchin Poor Clares in the Diocese of Pueblo, Colorado. As contemplative nuns we live quietly a life of prayer inside the monastery, alternating work and communal life. Living in community and prayer, allows each sister to live their consecrated life with joy and enthusiasm.
